Children supported through the social projects of the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation were welcomed at Elisabeta Palace by Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia, as well as at the Royal Domain of Săvârșin, on Thursday, June 1, 2023, International Children’s Day. The cultural experience offered to the children also included creative workshops at the “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum and the National Museum of Romanian Literature.
To mark International Children’s Day, the Royal Foundation once again prepared a series of unique experiences for more than 200 children benefiting from social services at the Generations Community Center in Bucharest; the Generations Centers run by the “Florian Cristescu” Community Development Association in Turnu Măgurele; the Diaconia International Aid Association in Brașov; the Oasis Children’s Center in Arad; the Greek-Catholic Metropolitan Caritas Center in Blaj; as well as beneficiaries of the Special Fund for Children and the Refugee Aid program, with activities taking place in Bucharest.
Children from Brașov, Turnu Măgurele, and Bucharest, invited to Elisabeta Palace, had the opportunity to learn about the history of this place during a guided tour through its meaningful and historic spaces and to admire the contemporary art collection. Together with Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia, they visited the photographic exhibition Royal Childhood, displayed in the courtyard of Elisabeta Palace, which highlights moments from the childhood of the young Princesses. Inspired by the photographs, Princess Sofia shared with the children her own childhood memories, stories about her games, and memories of her parents, King Michael and Queen Anne.
On the same day, children from the Generations Centers in Arad and Blaj visited the Royal Domain of Săvârșin and enjoyed the attractions of the park and the Royal Village.
Currently, the Royal Foundation runs programs aimed at preventing school dropout among disadvantaged children through the national projects Generations Centers and the Special Fund for Children, as well as the Refugee Aid project, which supports children arriving from Ukraine and their families.
