In Romania, dozens of talented young people from families with modest financial resources are lost every year because they do not have a real chance to develop their potential and express their talent. To support these artists, The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation runs the national Young Talentsprogram, offering support through scholarships, mentoring, and promotion.

The Romania needs art! campaign aims to raise funds for the scholarships of this program — essential financial support to sustain excellence and artistic creation among early-career musicians and visual artists. Art lovers can contribute to fulfilling the artistic destiny of these young people by donating via SMS with the text ARTA to 8864, contributing 4 EUR per month.

Internationally recognized cultural and artistic figures — musicians and visual artists—are joining the campaign to highlight the importance of art and the need to support young people in reaching their true potential. We invite you to follow them in the special broadcast Romania Needs Art!, part of this broad campaign, produced in partnership with the Romanian Television Society and the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society.

The special broadcast Romania Needs Art! features a message of support from Her Majesty Margareta, interviews, testimonials, and memorable musical moments from the Royal Charity Concerts. World-class musicians—conductor Tiberiu Soare, soprano Iulia Isaev, conductor Gabriel Bebeșelea, and cellist Marian Cazacu—speak about their personal involvement in supporting Romania’s artistic future and about their experiences as mentors alongside Young Talents scholarship recipients. Renowned artists and opinion leaders—Irina Margareta Nistor, Marcel Iureș, Paula Seling, and Zoli Toth — argue for the essential role of art in society, the importance of mentoring young artists, and the actions and resources needed to achieve excellence in the arts. The edition is rounded out by testimonials from former Young Talents scholarship recipients who received support and guidance at the beginning of their journey and went on to build successful European careers — composer Sebastian Androne, soprano Diana Alexe, tenor George Vîrban, and visual artists Sabina Dragomir and Ionuț Anghel. The public will learn about the challenges and sacrifices involved in nurturing a gifted child and about the essential role of the support provided by The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation.

Emisiunea-eveniment Romania needs art! este și un remember al celor mai frumoase momente muzicale ale Concertelor Regale de strângere de fonduri, ce aveau loc tradițional în ziua de naștere a Regelui Mihai. Aceste evenimente au adus cei mai valoroși muzicieni ai momentului și mari orchestre, în susținerea tinerilor artiști români, pe scena Ateneului Român, care găzduiește acum cea de-a doua ediției a acestei emisiuni.

On Sunday, October 24, The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation invites you to meet those who shape a beautiful Romania. The broadcast airs at 5:50 PM on TVR1 and at 6:00 PM on Radio Romania Muzical and Radio Romania Cultural, as well as online on TVR1’s YouTube channel and Facebook page and on the Foundation’s Facebook page.

For many talented young people, the Young Talents program has been an essential stepping stone in their development—a leap toward hard-to-reach excellence and a true launchpad onto the international stage. Many other talented young people from modest families now need support to pursue their dreams, and each of us can contribute to their future and to Romania’s cultural future through a simple but very important gesture—an SMS with the text ARTA to 8864 to donate 4 EUR per month.

About the national Young Talents program

The Young Talents program was launched in 2008 with the aim of mentoring and promoting talented young people from modest backgrounds so they can reach their true potential and express their talent. What sets the Young Talents program apart from other scholarship initiatives is its holistic approach, focused on the overall development and affirmation of emerging artists, not only on financial support. In addition to scholarships, young people receive guidance from accomplished mentors, training through masterclasses, and important promotion opportunities.The program has been a launchpad for many talented young people who are now valuable cultural ambassadors of Romania. Over 13 years, 380 scholarships have been awarded to talented young people with low incomes, and 455 recitals, concerts, and exhibitions have been organized to promote their artistic work. Scholarship recipients have won 178 national and international awards and participated in 145 national and international masterclasses. More than EUR 1.7 million has been invested in Romania’s artistic future, and the program is recognized as Romania’s Best Arts and Culture Program, awarded at the Civil Society Gala.

Between September 20 and October 27, 2021, the national selection for the Young Talents 2021 scholarships takes place in music and visual arts high schools and universities across Romania. Candidates are selected based on their social file and then evaluated by a prestigious jury of art professionals. More details on how to apply for a scholarship within the program are available HERE.
