Anniversary Photo Exhibition: 35 Years of Good Deeds Together. The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation in Pictures

The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, together with the AGERPRES National News Agency, is organizing the anniversary photography exhibition 35 Years of Good Deeds Together. The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation in Images at the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), a partner of the event.  The exhibition is part of a series of events marking 35 years of uninterrupted activity of the Royal Foundation and offers the public a visual retrospective of the most important projects, initiatives, and moments that have defined the organization's journey from its establishment in 1990 to the present.

The exhibition brings together a selection of documentary images from the archives of AGERPRES and the Royal Foundation, illustrating the Foundation's evolution, social involvement, and contribution, from emergency aid to sustainable development.

The inauguration of the exhibition took place last night, in the presence of Her Majesty Margareta, President of the Royal Foundation, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia. The invitation was honored by the ambassadors of the Swiss Confederation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Kingdom of Norway, the Republic of Moldova, and the Hellenic Republic, along with representatives of companies that have supported or continue to support the Royal Foundation’s projects, partner institutions, mass media, as well as opinion leaders from the social and cultural fields, volunteers, beneficiaries, and members of the Foundation's team.

During the opening of the event, Mugurel Mărgărit, Executive Director of the Royal Foundation, stated:

,,If we have learned anything in these years after the Revolution, when our destinies were in our own hands, it was that change comes in time. Change requires a lot of work, change requires sacrifices, and change requires people who share the same values as you and who stand by your side. Change demands responsibility. Because if you have the impression that by doing just a few activities for a short period of time you will have a long-term impact on people's lives, unfortunately, you are mistaken. This exhibition is about 35 years of the Royal Foundation and its activities, but for me, it is also about the courage of two ladies, two princesses, two daughters of King Michael, who came to Romania in 1990 with the belief that they could produce a change. 35 years later, this change is visible. There are 200,000 elderly people whom the Royal Foundation has supported, 35,000 children, over 300 talented young people, and more than 100 non-governmental organizations we have supported across the country. But we know there are still many children who need us, many talented young people who need support, and many elderly people who are isolated and have not yet found their place. So, we promise to continue for at least another 35 years. And I ask you to be with us, because we would have achieved absolutely nothing of what we have done so far without you."

Claudia Nicolae, Director General of AGERPRES,mentioned:

,,What you see in this exhibition are historical moments. My colleagues, the photojournalists from AGERPRES, do not consider a photograph merely an illustration of a moment. Photography, as we can see today, represents a bridge across time and a visual history. (...) Alongside The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, which I congratulate in this anniversary year, my colleagues from AGERPRES have managed to be witnesses to history from behind the camera. Such exhibitions illustrate that the archive, the photograph, the unstained and uninfluenced visual history, remains the witness over the years—ours as a nation and, why not, the entire world's. In the chosen images, I noticed a very strong connection, a construct. There are young people, people with needs, happy people, people with outstretched hands or who are embracing, but there are many smiles. Because the good done in silence, done with diplomacy, done at a moment when that person is in need, brings a smile. And over the years, it brings gratitude."

Florin Iaru, advisor to the President of ICR,concluded the series of speeches, emphasizing:

„By building itself with patience and wisdom, having a well-established goal, the Royal Foundation sets an example for many other foundations and organizations established over time. I have seen countless extraordinary deeds. It is good when they come together and testify to the most important thing for us: patriotism is not noisy. Patriotism is not about empty posturing. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are grateful to you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

The anniversary atmosphere was harmoniously complemented by a musical moment performed by Alexandra Dumitrache – mezzo-soprano and Sabin Bănescu – piano, young musicians and scholarship holders within the Young Talents program, which has been run by the Royal Foundation for 17 years.

The exhibition can be visited between November 6 and 11, 2025, at the Romanian Cultural Institute – Great Hall on Aleea Alexandru no. 38,Bucharest, after which it will go on tour. The public is invited to discover, through images, the story of a foundation that changes destinies, builds bridges between generations, and promotes the values of education, culture, respect, and human dignity.
