Life Journal, a visual arts exhibition and classical music recitals presented in an original format by the Young Talents scholars.
Between May 10 and June 20, 2021, The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, together with the Bucharest Municipality Museum, presents to art lovers a unique event – Life Journal – an open-air visual arts exhibition and online recitals performed by the scholars of the national Young Talents programme, 2021 edition.
The Life Journal event is part of a series of initiatives through which 30 young, emerging visual artists and musicians at the beginning of their careers are promoted and supported in their artistic development and expression by The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation. In the context of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, they are experimenting with new ways of promoting their artistic creations and expressing their talent in unconventional environments.
The works displayed outdoors at the Filipescu-Cesianu House, created using various techniques – painting, collage, photography, textile art, fashion design – are based on the symbolic representation of later life, drawing on the life stories of elderly people documented by the young artists from the Foundation’s programmes. By integrating concepts and symbols, the works highlight the experiences, emotions, and memories of elderly people, as well as the imprint of time and the journey through life upon them.
The Life Journal collection will be exhibited on the fence of the Filipescu-Cesianu House, part of the Bucharest Municipality Museum, along a 35-metre stretch of sidewalk on Calea Victoriei no. 151 in Bucharest, and can thus be viewed at any time by passers-by. Placing the works outside a traditional museum space, through the street display of creations made by young artists, represents an original way of bringing art to the public. Their artistic message of solidarity and admiration for those who have experienced life to an advanced age now gains public visibility.
“The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation builds, year after year, ways of promoting and supporting young people and, at the same time, protects the generations whose experiences and life stories inspire and motivate the present — our parents and grandparents. The closeness and dialogue between generations are reflected in the artistic message as a sincere gesture of gratitude, a beautiful way of celebrating life and preserving inherited values.” (Sabina Elena Dragomir, visual artist)
The event also includes classical music recitals held at the Suțu Palace, featuring current and former scholars of the Young Talents programme. The musical programme is performed by Ioan Tudor (cello), Andrei Mărăcine (violin), Daniel Dumitrașcu (piano), Mircea Dumitrescu (violin), Eleonora Bordînc (cello), and Paul Răducanu (violin). The recitals will be broadcast online on May 13 and May 20, starting at 8:00 PM, on the Foundation’s Facebook pages /tineretalentefrmr and /frmr.ro.

At the beginning of this year, following a complex selection process, 30 artists aged between 14 and 24, studying at vocational education institutions across the country and lacking financial resources, became scholars of the Young Talents programme. Throughout 2021, they benefit from scholarships, intergenerational mentoring sessions, and masterclasses provided by The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, as well as from initiatives to promote their artistic work. About the Young Talents Program
The national Young Talents programme was launched in 2008 with the aim of supporting and promoting talented young artists from modest backgrounds who need financial support to reach their true potential and express their talent. What sets the Young Talents programme apart from other scholarship initiatives is its holistic approach, focused on the development and affirmation of these emerging artists, not only on financial support. In addition to scholarships, young people receive guidance from valuable mentors, training through masterclasses, and promotion opportunities. Over 13 years of activity, 350 study scholarships have been awarded, 450 recitals, concerts, and exhibitions organized, 140 national and international masterclasses delivered, and 175 awards won in national and international competitions. Young Talents was recognized as the best Art and Culture programme in Romania, winning the Civil Society Gala award in 2013 and 2015, and second place in the same category in 2019.
