Volunteer mobilization in support of elderly people

  • Volunteering in support of elderly people or people with disabilities to help them access shopping and ensure their protection
  • Shopping orders taken by phone and free home delivery service with payment on delivery, in partnership with Kaufland România and Glovo.

Social isolation, imposed by the coronavirus crisis, places elderly people and those with reduced mobility in difficulty, sometimes even making it impossible for them to obtain food and essential goods. In support of them, The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation is organizing a large-scale volunteer campaign to facilitate access to shopping, as well as other logistical support activities for elderly people living alone. Anyone who wishes to help protect these vulnerable groups can register as a volunteer in one of the 14 cities, preparing daily packages with necessary items.

Among the urgent needs identified among elderly people affected by the coronavirus crisis are obtaining essential groceries, material support, emotional support and psychological counseling, as well as various home-based support services. Many elderly people cannot order online because they do not use digital platforms or payment methods, and even those who live alone do not receive this type of help from family.

With the aim of making home shopping accessible for elderly people living alone and for those who cannot go out and do not use the internet, Fundația Regală Margareta a României joins the initiative launched by Kaufland România and Glovo, offering them the possibility to place necessary orders by phone, with cash on delivery. This new service, created specifically to serve people over 65 and those with disabilities, now allows them to place orders via a dedicated phone line, have them delivered to their homes free of charge, and pay for the groceries in cash upon receipt.

Thus, orders can be placed by calling the phone number 0720.00.95.95 (standard rate) during the hours Monday–Saturday: 08:30–21:30 and Sunday: 08:30–20:00, for delivery within a maximum distance of 6 km from the Kaufland stores participating in this program.

Volunteer teams from the The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation are mobilized in 14 cities and ensure the preparation of grocery baskets for the elderly in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași, Brașov, Craiova, Constanța, Sibiu, Arad, Ploiești, Oradea, Brăila, Galați, and Pitești. They will also support other humanitarian actions to assist elderly people who have no one to rely on. Volunteers can sign up by sending a message to the address voluntar@principesa.ro.

With the involvement of volunteers, The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation thus responds to the current needs of seniors in Romania and to the requests they make. At the same time, the Foundation continues to support them during the crisis through various types of assistance, providing new facilities via Elderly Helpline and through the network of social services supported by the Fund for the Elderly.
