Christmas of solidarity: concrete support and moments of joy for lonely elderly people across the entire country

  • Over 1,100 elderly people supported during the holidays through the actions of the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation

Bucharest, December 22, 2025 –  The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, together with volunteers, sponsors, and donors, brought the spirit of the winter holidays into the homes of vulnerable elderly people. Through community actions, material support, and activities designed to alleviate loneliness, the organization created, once again this year, a network of solidarity that reached the hearts of those affected by isolation.

Christmas of hope for low-income elderly people in Bucharest

On December 17, 76 Royal Foundation volunteers and company employees traveled across the capital's sectors to deliver packages containing basic food items, traditional products, dairy products, eggs, hygiene and sanitary items, as well as 100 holiday cards made by themselves, to 100 lonely elderly people. Each delivery visit became a moment of connection, filled with smiles, conversation, and gratitude. During the holidays, the support of partner companies allowed for the preparation of generous packages that cover essential needs at the end of the year for the seniors who receive monthly aid through the Elderly Fund.

Festive meals and intergenerational activities

50 elderly people from Bucharest participated in a festive meal generously hosted by Hanu’ Berarilor – Casa Oprea Soare, part of the City Grill network, enjoying the company of team members from Elderly Helpline and Connecting Generations in the Digital World project.

In the spirit of active aging, beneficiaries of Elderly Helpline and The Fund for the Elderly collaborated with children in creative Christmas workshops, making small Christmas trees, wreaths, scented candles, and other seasonal ornaments for their homes at the Generations Center Bucharest.

Senior volunteers, children, and youth from the Generations Center Bucharest, along with children benefiting from the Special Fund for Children program, were invited to the Allianz-Țiriac Arena Ice Rink and the Țiriac Collection Gallery—activities offered with the support of the Țiriac Foundation.

National support for vulnerable elderly people

Gifts, visits, and activities in Generations Centers

Within the 17 Generations Centers, 180 senior volunteers and 604 beneficiary children were involved in numerous intergenerational workshops, celebrations, and carols, or various activities specific to the season.

571 packages with Hochland products reached the elderly volunteers (94), children, and staff of the 10 Generations Centers in Sighișoara, Tg. Mureș, Târnăveni, Ormeniș, Reghin, Bistrița, Brașov, Cenade, Biia, and Satu Mare, centers funded by Hochland Romania.

68 senior volunteers and 172 children from five Generations Centers in Buziaș, Bonțida, Dezmir, Bucharest, and Blaj — centers supported by the Bosch Romania Foundation — received gifts prepared by the company's employees, tailored to the wishes and passions of each child.

Around Christmas, senior volunteers and children from the Generations Center Bucharest enjoyed a trip to Sinaia: they visited Peleș Castle, enjoyed a walk in the city park, had lunch together, and returned to Bucharest with more confidence and hope.

National aid through the Elderly Fund program

In Baia Mare, Tg. Mureș, Reghin, Mărășești, and Sibiu, 750 elderly people enjoyed material aid packages and social activities through the interventions of five (5) local organizations supported by The Fund for the Elderly, valuing Romanian traditions and the spirit of solidarity. The initiatives included traditional gatherings with children and seniors, intergenerational creative and Christmas craft workshops, or participation in a Charity Christmas Fair through ,,Granny's House". The activities were completed by dance sessions specially designed for elderly people, interactive performances where seniors sang carols alongside children, special moments prepared by children, as well as concrete support actions for elderly people in high-risk situations through the distribution of food and hygiene product packages.

Another 40 elderly people in difficult situations received social vouchers to have the necessary food on their Christmas table.

A national support network for seniors

In 2025, the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation supported over 6,000 elderly people and funded 28 NGOs that provide social services dedicated to seniors: from weekly telephone conversations, social tele-clubs, recommendations for care or home cleaning, social packages, holiday meals, digital education workshops, to their involvement in social activities or even volunteering at community centers.

How can we help together?
