
20 top speakers at the 8th edition of the "Best Practices for a Beautiful Seniorhood" conference
Legislation, statistics, trends, innovative and effective solutions for elderly people in Romania

On Tuesday, 1 October 2024, starting at 10:00, at the National Theatre Bucharest, the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation brings together specialists and practitioners in the field of seniorhood from public institutions, non-profit organisations, companies and the media, at the 8th edition of the national conference “Good Practices for a Beautiful Seniorhood”. Organized on the occasion of the International Day of Elderly People, the event will take place in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia, member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Foundation, and will be moderated by Mugurel Mărgărit, Executive Director of the Foundation.
The conference is accredited as a continuing professional development programme by the National College of Social Workers, and social workers registered with the College receive 2 professional credits.
The topics addressed within the event dedicated to specialists in the field of seniorhood are intended to provide inspiration and to contribute to improving the quality of life of elderly people through successful examples proposed from Romania and abroad, by practitioners, specialists or authorities, such as:
- updates brought in 2024 by Social Assistance Law no. 292/2011, for the care of vulnerable elderly people
- support and recommendations for elderly people, examples from Romania and around the world
- the public image of elderly people – stereotypes and reality
- the importance of active aging and the benefits for society
- community social assistance services for elderly people
- caring for elderly people in residential centers
- the first signs of dementia and when a neurological consultation is necessary
- opportunities for active ageing and community initiatives
- opportunities for social interaction and meaningful engagement for lonely elderly people
- the secret to remaining relevant and inspirational at any age
A novelty introduced this year is the dialogues, held on various topics: Law no. 292/2011 on social assistance, updated in 2024, the public image of elderly people in the media or in marketing campaigns, and the importance of active ageing from a psychological perspective.
The special guest of this edition is the renowned actor Florin Zamfirescu. He will speak to those present about the principles that have guided him throughout his life in order to preserve his youthfulness and strength, the way in which he chose to assume a professional and social role until an advanced age, and how he has managed to remain relevant in every stage of his life.
At the same time, during the conference, the Top of the Needs of Elderly People in Romania and the Solutions Provided to Them will be launched, a statistical report prepared by the national line Elderly Helpline – 0800 460 001, based on the data collected over 9 years of operation and more than 100,000 interactions recorded with elderly people from across the country.

| September 30, 2024 – Socializing lunch in Bucharest for approximately 30 elderly people affected by loneliness Elderly people are invited to Hanu’ Berarilor, this being an initiative from the series organised with the aim of creating socialising opportunities for elderly people from the Elderly Helpline project. |
| October 1, 2024 – INTERGENERATIONAL EXHIBITION – Media Hall Foyer, TNB Will be exhibited a part of the visual arts collection Life Journal, created by young artists from the Young Talentsprogram, which it is based on the symbolic representation of senectitude, starting from the life stories of elderly people, as well as photographic snapshots captured within the national The Generations Centres,, where seniors are volunteers for children from disadvantaged families. |
| October 1, 2024, at 17:00 – Classical music recital for elderly people – Media Hall, TNB Media Hall of the National Theatre Bucharest will host a classical music recital dedicated to elderly people,performed by scholarship holders of the Young Talents program of the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation. Seats are offered to 120 elderly people supported through the Foundation's social projects — Elderly Helpline, Generations Centers, and the Elderly Fund – and other organizations in Bucharest, with the aim of preventing isolation and combating loneliness. |

| 02 octombrie 2024 – Material aid action for elderly people benefiting from the Elderly Fund program 100 elderly people in Bucharest, beneficiaries of the program affected by loneliness and financial problems, will receive visits from 30 Foundation volunteers and packages prepared and distributed by them containing basic food items, dairy, and sanitary and hygiene products offered by the Foundation's sponsors. September 30 – October 02 – Material support and socializing actions in Baia Mare, Mărășești, Nicorești, Reghin, and Tulcea Material and emotional support will also be provided around the International Day of Older Persons to 400 vulnerable elderly people in the localities of Baia Mare (Maramureș County), Mărășești (Vrancea County), Nicorești (Galați County), Reghin (Mureș County) and Tulcea, through local actions supported by 5 NGOs receiving grants for this purpose from the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, through the Elderly Fund programme. Thus, elderly people with low incomes, unable to meet their basic care needs, receive food and hygiene products at home, while elderly people wishing to socialise are invited to take part in festive moments within their community, where children and young people prepare surprise artistic programmes for them or welcome them with flowers and much affection. |
