The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation launches the impact report on the intergenerational model

  • Study results, legislation, best practices, effective solutions, and inspiration for a beautiful seniorhood – presented at the 9th edition of the "Best Practices for a Beautiful Seniorhood"national conference.

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM, at the Bucharest National Theatre, the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation is organizing the 9th edition of the "Best Practices for a Beautiful Seniorhood" national conference, dedicated to specialists in the field of senectitude. This year's theme is INTERGENERATIONAL, and registrations can be made on the conference's official webpage.

Organized on the occasion of the International Day of Elderly People, the event takes place in the presence of Her Majesty Margareta,President of the Royal Foundation and Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia, member of the Foundation's Steering Committee; and the Minister of Labor, Family, Youth, and Social Solidarity, Petre-Florin Manole and it brings together 200 people: representatives from the field of social assistance, public institutions, central and local authorities, members of civil society, companies with services dedicated to elderly people, doctors, psychologists, and more.

The conference is moderated by Mugurel Mărgărit, Executive Director of the Foundation and is approved as a continuous professional training program by the National College of Social Workers, and the social workers registered in the College receive 2 professional credits.

Impact report and major themes

The topics addressed during the event are meant to bring inspiration and contribute to increasing the quality of life for elderly people through successful examples proposed from across the country by practitioners, specialists, or authorities, such as:

  • the intergenerational approach for elderly people through the launch of the report on the impact of the intergenerational model applied in the Generations Centers, 10 years after the implementation of this social innovation
  • current trends and challenges in the field of senectitude,estimates for Romania from a sociological perspective, from state institutions, or from those at the grassroots level
  • the strategy regarding long-term care and active aging
  • the top needs of elderly people recorded at the Elderly Helpline during the 10 years of the social service's existence
  • the most innovative and effective solutions at a national level for the assistance provided to dependent elderly people
  • active aging activities and initiatives for elderly people, such as supportive mobile applications, socialization for elderly people, and the "third age" in the approach of companies.
  • an interaction and exchange space for the community of specialists active in social work
  • remarkable elderly people who have managed to remain relevant to society until an advanced age

Inspirational guest: Acad. Dr. Georgeta Filitti

Acad. Dr. Georgeta Filitti, historian, researcher, publicist, writer, and translator, will share with those present the values and principles that have guided her through different stages of life, including the present. She will discuss how she chose to maintain a family, professional, and social role until an advanced age, how she managed to maintain her vitality and relevance in society, and what advice she has for seniors to live fulfilled and connected with the world around them.

At the same time,the Top Needs of Elderly People in Romania and Solutions Offered to Them will be launched during the conference, a statistic compiled by the national Elderly Helpline – 0800 460 001, based on data collected over 10 years of operation.

29 September, 2025 – 10 Years of the Generations Community – Anniversary Event

We celebrate in Bucharest 10 years of the Generations Centers program, a social innovation program created by the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation and multiplied in 42 social centers across various communities since 2015. 18 NGOs implementing the Generations program will take part in the event to share their experience and connect with other centers in the country.

30 September, 2025 - InterGENERATIONS EXHIBITION – Foyer of the AtelierHall,, TNB

Will be exhibited a part of the visual arts collection Life Journal, created by young artists from the Young Talentsprogram, which it is based on the symbolic representation of senectitude, starting from the life stories of elderly people, as well as photographic snapshots captured within the national The Generations Centres,, where seniors are volunteers for children from disadvantaged families.

30 September, 2025 Classical music recital for elderly people – TNB

The Bucharest National Theatre will host a classical music recital dedicated to elderly people,performed by scholarship holders of the Young Talents program of the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation. Seats are offered to 120 elderly people supported through the Foundation's social projects — the Elderly Helpline, Generations Centers and the Elderly Fund — and other organizations in Bucharest, with the aim of preventing isolation and combating loneliness.

30 September, 2025 – Launch of the Top Needs of Elderly People in Romania and solutions offered to them

The launch takes place within the "Best Practices for a Beautiful Seniorhood". conference. It will include information regarding the demographic and social context at national and international levels, as well as statistical data collected over 10 years of operation of the licensed social service the Elderly Helpline project.

October 1, 2025 - Material aid action for elderly people benefiting from the Elderly Fund program

100 elderly people in Bucharest, beneficiaries of the program affected by loneliness and financial problems, will receive visits from 30 Foundation volunteers and packages prepared and distributed by them containing basic food items, dairy, and sanitary and hygiene products offered by the Foundation's sponsors.

October2, 2025 - Socialization meal in Bucharest for approximately 30 elderly people affected by loneliness

Elderly people are invited to Hanu’ Berarilor, an action from the series organized to create socialization opportunities for senior beneficiaries of the the Elderly Helpline project.

September 26 – October 5 – Intergenerational actions in the Generations Centers

150 elderly people alongside children from the Generations Centers celebrate the International Day of Elderly People together through artistic activities, games, museum visits, spiritual evenings, creative workshops, and intergenerational exchanges that bring gratitude and joy. Children prepare cards, songs, gifts, or festive moments for elderly people, while they share stories and experiences and spend quality time with the little ones.

September 30 – October 2 – Material support and socialization actions in the counties of Sibiu, Maramureș, Mureș, and Vrancea

Material and emotional support will be provided around the International Day of Elderly People for 550 vulnerable elderly people in the localities of Sibiu (Sibiu county), Mărășești (Vrancea county), Baia Mare (Maramureș), Tg. Mureș, and Reghin (Mureș county) through local actions supported by 5 NGOs receiving grants for this purpose from the Royal Foundation through the The Fund for the Elderlyprogram. Thus, low-income seniors unable to meet their basic care needs receive food and hygiene products at home, and those eager for socialization are invited to take part in festive moments in their community, in various intergenerational activities alongside children and youth from the community.
