Solidarity and hope: Brighter Easter Holidays for lonely elderly people
- Over 800 elderly people benefit this year from special actions and support dedicated to Easter, through projects supported by the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation
- Food packages, social meals, social vouchers, intergenerational activities, and recitals offered to vulnerable elderly people from 6 social projects
- Traditional treats were also offered to volunteer elderly people who are active within 11 Generations Centers
On the eve of Easter, through the generosity of partners and the dedication of volunteers, The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation lights up the homes and hearts of hundreds of vulnerable elderly people – beneficiaries of the social projects Elderly Fund and Elderly Helpline – offering them not only material support, but also helping them feel the warmth of the community even in the most difficult moments.
150 lonely elderly people from Bucharest and across the country received food packages or social vouchers
Elderly people in Bucharest, facing serious financial hardship and beneficiaries of the Elderly Fund programme, received visits from the volunteers of The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation – students and company teams involved in supporting the cause of elderly people. 50 “Easter bunnies” reached the homes of elderly people who are alone and worried about tomorrow, bringing them gift packages, holiday treats, words of encouragement and leaving behind a ray of light and hope at their doorstep. The holiday message remained in each elderly person’s home, written on a greeting card created by the volunteers themselves.
Elderly people across the country living in precarious conditions, beneficiaries of the social service The Elderly Helpline, received social vouchers worth 200 lei per person to support their Easter shopping basket.
450 elderly people from Cluj, Mureș, Sibiu and Vrancea counties supported for Easter through local organisations
Material and emotional support on the occasion of the Easter Holidays was also granted to 450 elderly people from the localities of Mărășești, Sibiu, Târnăveni, Gherla, and Reghin, through the local actions of organizations that receive grants for social services from the Foundation. Thus, elderly people with low incomes, who are unable to meet their basic care needs, received food and hygiene products at home, while elderly people eager for socialization were invited to participate in intergenerational workshops, ranging from creative or cooking sessions specific to the Easter Holiday, to those about the history of religious events and holidays.
Classical music recitals for elderly people from 2 residential centers in Bucharest
Palm Sunday was brought into two residential centres for elderly people through classical music recitals performed by the scholars of the Young Talents programme, moments that brought colour and more life to the residential “Saint Theodora” Centre (District 4) of DGASMB and to the “Saint Anne” Residential Care and Assistance Centre for Elderly People of DGASPC District 3.
40 elderly people from Bucharest took part in a social meal and an intergenerational creative workshop
Elderly people who have found relief from loneliness through The Elderly Helpline were invited to a social gathering meal in the midst of a family formed by the project team, meant to restore their hope before the Easter Holidays, a rare opportunity to step out of the routine of empty days and to be part of a community. The suspended menu was donated by clients of the City Grill restaurant network through the Out for Food app, in order to bring joy to the holidays of elderly people who are alone. Other elderly beneficiaries of The Elderly Helpline enjoyed and were uplifted by the energy and good spirits of children while creating story-like Easter decorations, within the Generations Centre in Bucharest.
200 elderly people who are volunteers at the Generations Centers were rewarded with traditional treats
Elderly people who act as volunteers for children within the intergenerational social centers in the counties of Alba, Bistrița-Năsăud, Brașov, Cluj, Mureș, Satu Mare, Timiș, and Bucharest were rewarded by the project sponsors with seasonal treats, along with the baskets offered to children containing products from Hochland, Toneli, and Boromir.
